How may I purchase tickets for a Theatre Calgary show?
You may purchase Theatre Calgary tickets through either the Theatre Calgary administrative offices or the EPCOR CENTRE box office. Both offices sell tickets to individual Theatre Calgary performances, but Five-Play and Flex subscriptions (as well as Flex voucher redemptions, subscriber discount tickets, and other subscriber transactions) are handled exclusively by the Theatre Calgary sales office. Seats located in our boxes are also typically available by phoning or visiting the Theatre Calgary sales office. There are many ways to book:
➢ By phone through the Theatre Calgary sales office: Call (403) 294-7447 between 9:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and make your purchase with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Please be aware that we experience very high call volumes at certain times of the year. Once you leave a voicemail, we will get back to you as soon as possible (typically within two business days if we are very busy).
➢ In person at the Theatre Calgary sales office: Visit us on the +15 level of the EPCOR CENTRE. Our doors are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and we can take payment by major credit card, debit card, cheque, or cash.
➢ Online through the EPCOR CENTRE’s website: The website is always open and can accept payment by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. This online sales system is operated by the EPCOR CENTRE box office. Please note that in order for subscribers to obtain their 20% discount off of single ticket purchases, they will need to visit or phone our Theatre Calgary sales office. Please note, credit card statements will read EPCOR Centre on them as opposed to Theatre Calgary.
➢ In person at the EPCOR CENTRE box office: EPCOR CENTRE staff at the main box office in Centre Court (near Baraka Café) can book Theatre Calgary tickets for you and take payment by major credit card, debit card, cheque, or cash. In general, they are open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm. The EPCOR CENTRE box office cannot handle any transactions related to your subscription—please visit the Theatre Calgary sales office instead.
➢ By phone through the EPCOR CENTRE box office: Call (403) 294-9494. In general, the EPCOR CENTRE box office’s phone line is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm, as well as 10am to 6pm on Saturdays. You may make your purchase with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
➢ In person at the Max Bell Theatre: Starting one hour before a Theatre Calgary performance, visit the Max Bell Theatre box office just inside the lobby doors of the theatre. This box office only sells tickets for the performance that is about to begin.
Are there discounts for children, students, or seniors?
Generally speaking, no. Our ticket prices are based on seating location and performance time, and start as low as $35 per ticket. Children must have their own ticket to attend the show, and babes-in-arms are not permitted. School groups can arrange discounted tickets to attend weekday student matinee performances—please contact Tryphena Fric, Student Education Coordinator, at (403) 294-7440 x1060 for more details. Patrons aged 65 and older can purchase discounted tickets for Seniors’ Saturday Matinee performances, held on the third Saturday of each Subscription Series production’s run. Please call our sales staff at (403) 294-7447 to ask about availability.
Are there Pay-What-You-Can performances?
Generally, we offer a limited number of Pay-What-You-Can tickets on the first Saturday matinee of each Subscription Series production. Pay-What-You-Can tickets cannot be booked in advance. They are sold on a first-come first-served basis at the Max Bell Theatre box office starting one hour before show time, and tend to sell out quickly. Seating is typically located on the Second Balcony level.
How will I receive my tickets?
There are several options for receiving your tickets:
-Pick up your tickets on the day of your performance at the ticket pick-up table inside the Max Bell Theatre lobby. This table opens one hour before the performance starts.
-Pick up your tickets in advance at the Theatre Calgary sales office on the +15 level of the EPCOR CENTRE. The sales office is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:30pm.
-Receive print-at-home tickets through your email address. This option must be requested at the time of purchase.
-Receive your tickets in the mail, if time allows. Tickets purchased through the Theatre Calgary sales office will be mailed to you free of charge; however, the EPCOR CENTRE box office does charge $2.00 per mailing.
I haven’t received my print-at-home tickets. What should I do?
The email may take up to a half-hour to arrive. If it has still not arrived at that time, check your junk folder, as the automated ticket email may have been marked as spam by your email filters. If you still can’t find the email, call us at (403) 294-7447.
What if I’ve lost my tickets?
To arrange a reprint of your tickets, call our sales line at (403) 294-7447, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If the sales office is already closed for the day or weekend, bring ID with you when you come to the theatre and speak to our box office staff, who will be available starting one hour before show time.
No, all tickets are non-refundable. However, since we are a non-profit charitable organization, you may donate tickets back to Theatre Calgary and request a tax receipt for the cost of the tickets. Canada Revenue Agency regulations require that Theatre Calgary have the opportunity to resell your tickets, so ticket donations must be made at least two business days prior to the scheduled performance. We cannot accept donations of tickets to performances that have already taken place, or of unused Flex vouchers.
Can I purchase a gift certificate for Theatre Calgary performances?
Live theatre makes a wonderful gift. Theatre Calgary gift letters may be purchased in any denomination, never expire, and can be redeemed towards tickets for a single show or a subscription for the full season. Our sales staff can help you craft the perfect gift package for your needs—call (403) 294-7447.
Are performances ever cancelled due to extreme weather or other circumstances?
Please take weather into account when planning your journey to the theatre. Performances are rarely cancelled, and if the show goes ahead as scheduled, we cannot exchange unused tickets after the fact. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, you would be contacted as soon as possible to make alternate arrangements. We would notify you of a cancellation by email, so when you purchase your tickets, please ensure that we have your current email address on file. We will also post any cancellations on our twitter at https://twitter.com/theatrecalgary. During the hour before your show begins, you can contact the Max Bell Theatre box office at (403) 294-7440 x1080 if you experience an emergency.
