FUSE 2011

Theatre Calgary is proud to partner with Enbridge to present FUSE - The Enbridge New Play Development Program. Established in 2006, FUSE is dedicated to the development of new plays that have the potential to be produced on the Theatre Calgary stage, with the goal to launch these works nationally and internationally.

Every year, plays are selected for development and creative exploration through workshops with established professional artists. We invite the public to attend free presentations from these works-in-progress in order to share the work being explored and to receive vital feedback that can have a dramatic effect on the creative direction of these new works.

FUSE 2011 LINEUP:

MICHAEL RISING    By Damien Atkins

Wednesday, June 8th @ 7:30 pm
The Howie family has worked hard to build their business up from nothing. They’ve come to Las Vegas to sign a deal that will make them major players in the global energy market. But is their dream worth displacing countless Chinese villages and causing massive environmental damage? For youngest son Michael, changing the world may be worth more than his family’s happiness.
Note: Contains strong language.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL    Adapted by Dennis Garnhum

Friday, June 10th @ 10:30 am
This coming holiday season, Theatre Calgary celebrates 25 years of spirited tradition with an all-new production of Dickens’ timeless tale. Join us for a first look at the magic in store as we further develop the adaptation of the story for our stage. It’s a sneak peek at our biggest Christmas present yet.

DAVE KELLY UNCOVERED    By Dave Kelly

Mon. June 13th, Wed. June 15th, Fri. June 17th at 7:30 pm
How does a kid from a large and devoutly religious family without a TV) end up hosting Calgary morning television, and what happens when he’s off the air? Dave Kelly returns (from FUSE 2010) with the continuation of his touching, funny and candid work-in-progress. Be a vital part of his creative process as he takes his story further and invites you to be his testing ground.  Come once, or come to all three nights as his journey shapes and unfolds over the course of the week.

WAXWORKS    By Trina Davies

Friday, June 24th at 7:30 pm
1789. Marie Grosholz’s talents as a wax sculptor have introduced her to the most influential people in Paris. But as revolution storms the city streets and palaces, her artistry puts her at the heart of one of the bloodiest struggles in history. Based on the life of Madame Tussaud, whose wax images created the first world-wide entertainment brand. What happens when a work of art can determine life or death?
