The Playwrights’ Circle

Four playwrights will be invited to participate in The Playwrights’ Circle for the duration of the Theatre Calgary production season. Each playwright will receive direct access to dramaturgical feedback and support for a proposed project from the Literary Manager and other members of the group. Additionally, The Playwrights’ Circle will meet on a regular basis to provide an open opportunity to share creative ideas and insights on the playwriting process through discussion of individual projects in development, as well as plays presented as part of the Theatre Calgary season.

At the discretion of the Literary Manager, scripts developed as part of the Playwrights’ Circle may receive further development and public presentation as part of Theatre Calgary’s FUSE play development program.

Each participating playwright will receive a $2,000 honorarium and be considered members of the Theatre Calgary Artistic Company throughout the season of their participation.

How to Apply and Additional Information:

 
•    Applicants are asked to submit a résumé, a letter outlining their interest in the program, and a project proposal suitable for development at Theatre Calgary.
•    Playwrights unknown to the Literary Manager or Artistic Director are asked to submit a sample of their written work.
•    Playwrights’ Circle participants should have a proven ability and demonstrated commitment to their craft, with a strong interest in writing for the larger stage environment.
•    Playwrights with at least one previous professional or semi-professional production of their work will receive primary consideration.
•    Travel and any additional related expenses are the responsibility of the participating playwright.
•    Members of the Playwrights’ Circle may be asked to take part in Theatre Calgary’s Audience Outreach and Education programs.
