Guys and Dolls
Can good overcome evil? Can a hopeless sinner find salvation? Can a gambler win a bet to save his soul? And can a girl ever get a lousy gambler to marry her?
A charismatic gambler and a stuffy missionary woman, a hot-box dancer, her marriage-avoiding boyfriend, and a whole lot of sinners make Guys & Dolls an irresistible musical indulgence!
With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, Guys & Dolls, will roar onto the Max Bell stage from April through May. A co-production with the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the show will be directed by Winnipeg's Robb Paterson, who was last seen at Theatre Calgary singing his way through a Little Shop of Horrors.
This is a big, wild show that provides an unforgettable glimpse into a Broadway of the 1940's that is full of gamblers, nightclubs and the self-righteous do-gooders out to clean it all up.
Filled with classic songs like 'Luck Be a Lady', 'I'll Know', and 'Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat', Guys & Dolls sweeps audiences away with infectious melodies and a plot line that bobs and weaves around its central characters, Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit and the lovely Sarah Brown. There aren't many stages in Calgary that can house the kind of trouble these two find themselves in. As in many things, however, love ultimately rules the day.
