A Christmas Carol

by Charles Dickens
Adapted by Jerry Patch

Artistic Director's Notes

The first play I ever saw at Theatre Calgary was A Christmas Carol and that was over 16 years ago. I was on a school break from the University of Victoria and could not afford to go home to Ontario to be with my family. My school chum Darren invited me to spend the holidays here in Calgary with his family. I remember vividly watching A Christmas Carol come to life. It warmed my heart and was a magnificent introduction to this fine theatre.

It is now my good fortune to be directing this new rendition of our annual offering. A few central ideas have guided our way this yean We wish to inspire the adults watching to make every effort to live life to the fullest. We hope that in your busy lives you find the moments to embrace your past, acknowledge your present, and dream for your future. For the children who have come to see us, we hope to dazzle you with the magic of live theatre.

Our company loves working together to present A Christmas Carol every year. Many people on the team have said to me that this project reminds them of why they fell in love with theatre in the first place. The spirits work their magic on many, many levels during this season here at Theatre Calgary.

All the best wishes and thank you for sharing this first year of our new A Christmas Carol with us.
