Theatre Calgary is proud to have a very high level of community Volunteerism at our theatre. We have over 425 active volunteers that regularly give their time ushering at Max Bell Theatre, helping to facilitate administrative duties, and helping with events and occasions.

Volunteerism has been a long-standing tradition at Theatre Calgary, a great reflection of community enthusiasm for the Company. Volunteers have been utilized for important theatre tasks since we were founded in 1968, and many of our volunteers have been with us for 10+, 20+, and even 30+ years.

Join this wonderful group of dedicated women and men, of all ages, who share the pride and accomplishment of Theatre Calgary. (A waiting list currently exists)

“I started volunteering in 1991 and I got some fellow employees interested and we all volunteered for years… I am really enjoying the great theatre that (Artistic Director) Dennis Garnhum is bringing in and developing. He has taken Theatre Calgary into (this decade) with great style and creativity. My fondness for live theatre has grown thanks to Theatre Calgary and the opportunity to volunteer. I am treated with dignity and respect. Thank you Theatre Calgary.”

“I have been volunteering as an usher at Theatre Calgary for numerous years and I absolutely love the cultural experience that this volunteer position offers. The camaraderie among the volunteers is incredible, and all of the staff at Theatre Calgary are friendly and welcoming.  It is an honour to be a part of such a vibrant organization... Volunteering at Theatre Calgary is a very rewarding evening of artistic richness, in our very own city core.”

“This will be my third season as a volunteer and I look forward to my night out very much (volunteering at Theatre Calgary).  The people at Theatre Calgary are warm, welcoming and professional.  The volunteer roles and expectations are always clearly outlined and explained.  You really feel valued and appreciated.  It is a great opportunity to see the productions, meet new people and contribute as a volunteer to Theatre Calgary. Thank you for all you do, to make us feel so welcomed.”
- Nancy

“I have been volunteering for over 15 years. The reason I keep coming back is the people I meet, and also the plays that I get to see. The group that I usher with is unique, as we have all been volunteering together for so long.”
- Valerie

“I have enjoyed volunteering at Theatre Calgary for the last four years for many reasons. The plays are always professionally performed, I enjoy interacting with and assisting the public whenever I can…and the good atmosphere keeps calling me back to volunteer.”
- Ruth

“I get great joy in helping people to their seats, saying a ‘hello’ at the coat check, or wishing them a great evening taking their tickets (for the performance).”
 - Janet

“My wife and I had season tickets to Theatre Calgary for many years, and often, we would see our volunteer friends greet us (as ushers) when we arrived for the plays. We liked the theatre so much we decided to volunteer too, starting five years ago. We enjoy helping the patrons, and best of all, we get to greet our friends who come to the theatre.”
- Steve

“Theatre Calgary is a great place to meet new people, reconnect with those you’ve met in the past, and take in some fantastic theatre.  This is my third season with the team and I will continue to participate as long as they will have me.”
- Colleen
