We are saddened to learn of the passing of one of our former Artistic Directors, Harold G. Baldridge, on October 29th, at 79 years of age.
Born in Provost, Alberta, Mr. Baldridge was at our helm from 1972-1978, where over 40 plays were staged during that time, including the world premieres of Walsh, by Sharon Pollock, and W.O. Mitchell's Back to Beulah. More recently, he spent 32 years as executive director of New York's The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, retiring in 2012.
On behalf of our company of artists and administrators at Theatre Calgary, we send our heartfelt sympathy to Harold's beloved wife, Mary Humphrey Baldridge, and to his family and friends. His legacy lives on not just through the theatre companies he led, but to all those whom he worked with, and touched, as a colleague and an artist. He will be missed.
From our archives, pictured above is a message from Harold to our audiences in 1973.
