Your guide to experiencing Theatre Calgary
What to wear, when to arrive, how to buy tickets and more. Find answers to frequently asked questions in this handy guide to visiting Theatre Calgary.
- Where is Theatre Calgary located?
We’re in Arts Commons (220 9th Ave. SE), in the heart of downtown Calgary. Here’s a map that makes us easy to find.
- Can I text or use social media during a performance?
- How do I buy tickets?
From prices for single shows to subscriptions and more, you’ll find all the info you need right here.
- Can I get a refund on my tickets?
In the event you are unable to attend your performance due to illness, we can issue a ticket refund. Our Box Office team will refund the face value of your tickets to your original method of payment. Ticket refund requests can be made by calling our Box Office team at 403.294.7447, Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 8 pm MT, and Saturdays, 12pm to 8pm MT (Closed Sundays and Mondays).
PLEASE NOTE: Ticket refunds are available on a performance basis and do not extend to subscription packages.
- Where is my seat?
Every seat in the house is shown on this easy-to-read seating chart.
- Is there a dress code?
Some people like to dress up for the theatre, and others prefer to keep it casual. However you’re comfortable, you’re welcome!
- How can I respect my fellow audience members?
A little courtesy goes a long way. Please do not check your phone during the performance and make sure your phones and watches cannot ring or vibrate. Talking, whispering, unwrapping candy and strongly scented body products can be disruptive. Please be mindful and be respectful to fellow patrons.
- Can I bring my baby to a performance?
Theatre Calgary’s recommended age is 6 years and up. Babies and toddlers can be disruptive to fellow patrons, so for everyone’s enjoyment we’re unable to admit babes-in-arms. Children need their own tickets, and we ask that they’re able to sit comfortably in their own seat for the show’s duration while being respectful to their neighbours. We also have Relaxed Performances available for each of our shows that are better suited for young children. Please check our show pages for our age recommendations and Relaxed Performance times.
- Can I bring my own food or drink into the theatre?
Due to our Safety and Comfort Protocols, food and drink are not allowed within the Max Bell Theatre at this time. You're welcome to consume beverages and snacks purchased from the lobby bar in any of our lobbies prior to your performance and during intermission (where applicable). Due to food and beverage regulations, we’re unable to admit food and drinks not purchased at the theatre.
- How early should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive at least thirty (30) minutes before your show, which starts promptly at the stated time. That gives you plenty of time to enjoy our bar and snack service or to pick up tickets at the box office, which opens one hour before the curtain goes up. Theatre Calgary also creates memorable experiences for each show, so we recommend arriving early to see what we’ve got up our sleeve for every performance.
- What if I'm late for the show?
To get the most out of your theatre experience, please do your best to arrive at least thirty (30) minutes before showtime. Our Front of House Manager has the option to seat latecomers, but you might need to wait for a suitable moment to enter (chosen by the director). There’s a chance you’ll be given different seats to minimize any disruption. If you arrive later than this point, you might be asked to wait until intermission. So we encourage you to come early!
